The LGR isotopic analyzers are instruments capable of measuring with extreme accuracy the relative abundance of stable isotopes in a particular sample, especially of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen. Isotopic analysis has multiple fields of application including geology, environmental study/control, determination of the origin of the analyzed elements, and others.
The isotopic ratio of an atom in a mixture can be considered as a typical and absolutely unique fingerprint, therefore able to distinguish the origin of the atom itself. A classic example is given by the measurement of the C13 / C12 ratio to determine the origin of carbon dioxide (CO2) or methane (CH4), whether natural or anthropogenic, or the determination of the origin of the water contained in a liquid thanks to the analysis of the isotopic ratios of Hydrogen and Oxygen.
The OA-ICOS gas analyzers are capable of evaluating even very low concentrations (of the order of ppm and in some cases ppb) of one or more molecules within volumes of gas, whether it is ambient air (determination of Greenhouse gas, etc.), exhaust lines of industrial processes, etc. The OA-ICOS technology (Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy), distributed by Encotech, has an excellent ratio between accuracy, stability, and cost, allowing “unmanaged” applications directly in the field.
